Promoting Employee Wellbeing Through Community: Mental Health Awareness Week 2025

As we mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 (12-18 May), we are proud to support and discuss this year’s theme around the power and importance of ‘community’.

Positive and supportive communities are vital for our mental health and wellbeing as we thrive through strong connections, reminding us we are not alone.

The Mental Health Foundation are providing resources, information and ideas to cultivate mentally healthy communities and their website can be found here.

A mentally healthy workplace can also be viewed as a community and some ideas to help foster a good social and collective identity at work are as follows:

  • Encourage teamwork with regular group brainstorms and ideas sessions

  • Hold regular socials and team outings – from team activities to drinks/lunches

  • Forming clubs especially around healthy activities

  • Being clear where help is available.

Additionally, you can champion mental health as an employer by reaching out to the general community via:

  • Hosting or taking part in charity events

  • Taking part in sponsored events either organised by you as the employer or joining these (for example Parkrun).

Employee benefits can:

  • Assist individuals who do feel alone or isolated. Assistance programmes offer a confidential helpline to help with mental wellbeing and short-term counselling subject to clinical approval.

  • Help promote healthy activities. As an example, some providers include rewards for group and individual sports activities

  • Additionally, you can promote retail discount platforms offering community activities such as gyms and fitness classes. These can be provided as standalone or are offered within many core employee benefits.
