Supporting World Menopause Day, 18 October 2025
World Menopause Day 2025 fell on 18 October 2025 and, as we reflect on this, we are proud to support and join the discussion, highlighting the pivotal role of Lifestyle Medicine in wellbeing.
‘Menopause, typically occurring between ages 45 and 55 years, is a natural life stage marked by hormonal changes that can affect the symptom burden, quality of life and chronic disease risk. While not a disease, the transition often requires individualized, holistic care.’*
Lifestyle Medicine is increasingly being evidenced as a route to improve menopause symptoms as well as generally improve overall wellbeing. It involves using clinical care to support behaviour change via techniques to improve mental wellbeing, social connection, healthy eating, physical activity, sleep and minimisation of harmful substances and behaviours.
Employee benefits can assist with many providers now including benefits designed to promote and/or reward mental, physical and financial wellbeing.
As an example of assistance, BUPA are including a menopause helpline with their medical plans (from plan renewals) as well as an accessible charged referral service allowing an individual to discuss symptoms with an experienced, menopause-trained GP.
As a further example, cashplan and assistance programme often include wellness apps with meditation, mindfulness and sleep assistance apps. Included within this can be access to nutritional articles and/or consultations.
A treatment option recommended to help with menopause symptoms is menopause-specific cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) – a type of talking therapy that can help with a low mood, anxiety and sleep problems.
